Our Breeding Stock
Our breeding stock is double registered, carefully selected to incorporate superior fleece characteristics and sound conformation. We take pride in the fact that we have made decisions in our breeding program that support the health and wellness of our own animals and the Alpaca Industry as a whole. We believe this keeps us “Ahead in Genetics”. Email questions and enquiries about any of our animals and we’d be happy to share more information about them and our breeding philosophy.

The addition of this striking medium silver grey girl rounds out the colour selection available at Ballintotas Alpacas. Pom Pom is a well grown girl, with correct conformation and good bone density. She sports full coverage from her nose to her toes and a dense fleece, shearing 5.4 lbs at her 2009 shearing. Pom Pom is a fourth generation grey on her dam’s side and there are two generations of black on her Sire’s side. Her dam, Chenille, a silver grey, was sired by Chilean LLover, a medium silver grey with fine dense fleece (22.1 microns at age 5) and one of the top original imports into Canada in 1992. Her sire, Technicolour, is a bay black with strong conformation, correct bite and a pleasant personality. He shows soft, dense fibre with well-defined medium crimp, nice bundling and brightness (21 microns at age 3). Pom Pom's grand sire is the well known MMR Black Shadow. Her grand dam was sired by the ledgendary Sire Purrumbete Ledgers Dream, imported from South America into Australia as one of the original "Big Six" herdsires. His progeny are reknowned for their solid conformation, coverage, lustre, density and fineness of fleece.

Neva is a double-registered, ½ bolivian – ½ chilean true black who we call the ‘pop star’. Ever since making her arrival at Ballintotas Alpacas, she has drawn the attention of visitors and her fellow alpacas. She is our tallest alpaca, and with her graceful strut and confident air, she quickly commanded a top spot in our female pecking order. Neva’s sire and dam are true black, from a lineage that has consistently produced black. Her fleece is fine and uniform in colour and visitors often compare the sheen of her coat to ‘velvet’. Neva is comfortable on the lead and very relaxed in new situations. This makes her the obvious choice for off-site farm events and shows.
Announcement:
Neva performed exceptionally well at the Navan Fair Show, 2009. In the composite class (fleece and conformation), she practically ‘showed herself’, being easily managed by her ten year old handler. Judge Tim Lavan commented on Neva’s “very fine and uniform fleece” – a great compliment for a black! |

Claddagh is a double registered full Peruvian with very fine fawn fleece and promising conformation. She has proven to be a calm and malleable cria. Her mother, SC Paloma, descends from Pauco, known in Western Canada for producing award winning offspring. Claddagh’s sire, AH Patronne was Reserve Champion Light Male at Alpaca Ontario 2003, and is light fawn with exceptional fleece - AFD at age 2 of 17.3 and at age 3 of 19.4. Patronne has produced a number of award winning progeny, and took second in Sire’s Progeny at Alpaca Ontario 2006, out of 10 entries.
Announcement:
Claddagh’s final competition year at the Navan Fair Composite Show was a success, earning her a first place ribbon under the scrutiny of Judge Tim Lavan. He commented on the fineness of her fleece and characterized it as “uniform and buttery”
2008 Navan Alpaca Show: Claddagh’s performance in the composite (conformation and fleece), intermediate class was outstanding, earning her a 2nd place and the following comments from Judge David Friedman, “She is an extremely correct female with conformation and balance placing her over the 1st place animal…..her fleece exhibits a soft handle”.
